Improving research awareness in undergraduate students is crucial for fostering a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and academic excellence. By enhancing their understanding of research methodologies, encouraging engagement in research activities, and providing adequate resources and support, institutions can significantly boost research awareness among undergraduates. Here are some strategies to achieve this:
Incorporate Research into the Curriculum, Research Workshops and Seminars, Undergraduate Research Opportunities, Research Support and Resources, Research Conferences and Symposia, Research Mentoring, and Recognition and Awards.
By implementing these strategies, institutions can enhance research awareness among undergraduate students, nurturing a research-oriented mindset and preparing them for future academic pursuits or professional careers.
Dear researcher, there are many recommendations and experimental studies under the 21st century skills as "Critical Thinking Skill" regarding the subject you mentioned. I hope that will be useful.
This is a 'need of the hour ' question. I have the following suggestions:
Sensitising the undergraduate students to the following:
1.Health Sciences is always in a state of flux; everyday innovations are being made in basic sciences and clinical sciences, which as responsible future physicians, they have to update themselves
2. Basic Sciences and Clinical sciences have to work together to bring this about.
3. By 2nd year, they have to be aware of the types of epidemiological study designs; first from standard RM textbooks, Park and Park is fine too, then, simple , easy-to-understand articles. It should be a proactive experience Sir. They should search from authentic data bases . I am sure with today's tech savvy student community, they will be very good at this.
4.As teachers we may conduct Research Methodology workshop for them, in small group teaching. That way , they can review literature, identify gaps in literature, formulate research question.
5.Once they are strong in this, they can be sensitised to critical review checklist tools. such as JohannaBriggs, CASP etc.
