Most publications seem to have received these cells as gifts from other researchers. I could only find some available from Sigma Aldrich. Has anyone used these cells from this or other commercial sources?
I have used 3T3-L1 cells for this application (years ago). I am not familiar with the 3T3-F442A strain.
As a matter of routine concern, I recommend the ATCC (USA; check there may be a local distributor), ECACC (Europe), and Riken (Japan) to be confident of cell line authenticity (if you can afford it). Obtaining cell lines as a gift, while cheap and convenient, does not assure you have what you expect. Cross-contamination and cryptic infection are rife. Get your cell models from a reliable source, test and authenticate them regularly (e.g. 3 monthly for mycoplasma and STR Analysis - see http://www.atcc.org/~/media/PDFs/Technical%20Bulletins/tb08)
