We were trying to isolate viable photoreceptors of Drosophila melanogaster to culture them in laboratory conditions. However, the isolation is very difficult because photoreceptors are so fragile that we can damage them easily and may result to obtaining "dead" (or not viable) photoreceptors. Contaminations (e.g. other cells apart from photoreceptors) may also be extracted after photoreceptor isolation, which would be another problem for us. I tried to look for protocols how to isolate Drosophila photoreceptors but unfortunately, I could not find one. I wrote this question to check whether it is doable or not and if it is doable, how to do it. Available information on how to culture Drosophila photoreceptors in artificial conditions will be my follow up question. I would really appreciate any assistance from people with experience on this matter.
