I was unfortunate to find a paper where the working principle of the MEA technology is explained. How does it do the measurements? How the electrodes getting the signal and convert it to voltage? Is there anyone can explain this for me or recommend a journal?

In brief, in an MEA, microelectrodes measure the concentration of ions the surrounding medium, and these concentrations change depending on the activity of the cell. When a cell fires an action potential, there are ionic movements (e.g. Na+, K+) across the cell membrane. The electrodes of the MEA transduce the change in voltage carried by ions into currents carried by electrons (electronic currents).
