Hi all,
I've been sadly suffering a lot from my thrips colony being infected with predatory mites for so long. At the beginning of every generation I minimise the mite population by transferring the newly emerged adult thrips to new containers with new, clean food supplies, though while I'm transferring them with brush some mites are inevitably transmitted to the new containers and they grow by the end of the thrips generation. This has suppressed the colony expansion and subculturing process. I'm deadly owerwhelmed with these freaking fellows.
Can anyone kindly help me with a reliable method to get rid of these tiny aliens?

Hi, try to discard everything if you have the back-ups stocks. Disinfect and sterilize everything including all equipments, containers, incubators, etc. If can disinfect the whole lab and try everything again.. Good luck..

Keep in mind that mites are controlled with acaricides. The new classes of acaricides with novel modes of action, Spiromesifen, Pyridaben, Propargite, tetradifon, acequinocyl, diafenthiuron, etoxazole, spirodiclofen and bifenazate, in particular, are acaricides that are safe to beneficials insects, have low mammalian toxicity and short environmental persistence offering new opportunities for mite control. They are selective against insect predators and parasitoids. Test the acaricide with some thrips to confirm if they are not affected by the product to use it safely in your thrips lab colony for the handling of predatory mites.
Finally disinfect the plants and rearing containers with a selective acaricide.

I have disinfected the whole lab and incubators and could reduce the population of mites quite well. I'm going to see if the mite population will grow back again or not.
