Can anyone please tell me the taxonomic order and family of the ammonite Mamites mamalis from the upper cretaceous turonian? The name of the first author of this species would also interest me. I could not find any information in my literature or on the internet.

Order: Ammonoidea Zittel 1884;
Sub-Order: Ammonitina Hyatt 1889
Super-family: Acanthoceratoidea Grossouvre 1894
Family: Acanthoceratidae De Grossouvre 1894
Sub-family: Mammitinae Hyatt 1900
Genus: Mammites Laube & Bruder 1887
But I never heard of M. mamalis... The most known species is M. nodosoides (Schlüter 1871).

Thank you Didier. Yes, that's what I meant. I missed out typing the 2nd "m" in my hurry. Almost all of the Mammites ammonites from the Atlas mountains in Morocco seem to carry the species name mamalis, but I can't find the original author for it and am wondering if the name is just an invention.
The question is who names these "mamalis"? It think too this is an invention ;-)
Someone just sent me this paper: Early Turonian ammonites from Goulmima, southern Morocco. That has cleared up the question for me. M.nodosoides is the species from that site. "Mamalis" is the figment of somebody's imagination. Thanks for your help.
