Whether bacterial cellulose can be stored with sufficient amount of water in a refrigerator for 3-5 months? I would also like to know about the degradation of bacterial cellulose upon storage?
The cellulose mass should be essentially sterile after the Gluconacetobacter cells are destroyed using hot caustic washing and rinsing cycles. After these exhaustive cleaning steps the bacterial cellulose should be able to survive storage "indefinitely" when refrigerated in clean water in a closed container. In many respects bacterial cellulose should be no less stable during long termed storage than plant cellulosic materials such as paper or other familiar wood products.
It depend upon the form you want to use in future.
If you want to use in wet form, store it in deionezed water maximum for 3 months. However if you want to use in dry form or powder form, store in freeze dried or simply dry form. If you want to use BC in powder form in future, then simply dry it, crush and store in air tight container.
