I am trying to simulate brittle crack without initial crack using Abaqus XFEM. Specifically, I make a simulation of the 4 point bending (contact problem) on a very thin orthotropic plate containing inclusions in thickness. In addition, I use implicit / standard. But the calculation does not converge. So I do not know if XFEM in Abaqus 6.11 already supports the contact problem, the anisotropic material, the heterogeneous material in the simulation of cracking or not? If the answer is positive, there are probably problems on the settings I entered. Does someone has any ideas about this topic?

In general, there are two approaches:
1. Start with a simple model (simple material simple geometry etc.) and add complexities one by one to see where the problem lies.
2. Look at the detailed job diagnostics (or the msg-file) to see where the convergence problems come from (increments too large, problem unstable, etc.)
Without details on the model, it is difficult to say more.
The problem is :
Maxps or Maxpe parameter contain damage evolution which is need damage initiation both from elastic and plastic (plastic parameter for concrete must use drucker-prager analysis). if we don't assign damage initiation is the result still reliable? can anyone describe it?
