I'm trying to form a close-packed monolayer of PS microspheres (not functionalized, in a surfactant free suspension, from 2.5 to 0.5 % wt) over a glass substrat. I tried spin coating but didnt get what I was looking for (bad surface coverage and lots of multilayer areas). anyone could give me a simple solution?
you can follow our recipee, it's fairly simple if you have a thermostatic oven or at least something like a cabinet with laminar air flow

Polystyrene (PS) density may be a significant parameter to ensure reproducibility of experimental protocols dealing with PS microspheres, since it is quite close to water density and both dependent on the degree of cristalinity and on possible water absorption ─ it increases with crystallinity and decreases by water absorption.
maybe you can first pretreat the glass by immersing into cationic surfactant solution followed by rinsing with water. After this the polystyrene beads should adsorb onto it.
