I am planning to conduct mu PhD Dissertation on the Title of 'Tradition and Changes among the Irob community in Northern Ethiopia. Therefore, before I fixed proposal, I want some advice on some appropriate anthropological frameworks and/or Theories appropriate to my topic. The community is living in a arid mountainous area and practice mixed agriculture though pastoralism dominates.

This is a study by Mrs Alfreda Ibui of Kenya, which could help you very much. I give you the title; Indigenous Knowledge Belief and Practice of Wild Plants among the Meru of Kenya. Via Google search and LinkedIn, it is possible to make contact with her.
Also you could find a great number of publication in the African Studies Catalogue of the University of Leiden. Even by asking to become a member of the community.
There is a book called Theories of Sickness and misfortune among the Haendowa Beja. Narritives as points of Entry into Beja Cultural Knowledge. By Frode F. Jacobsen. The authour is of the Social Anthropolgy department of Bergen Norway. They have lots of publications and studies of the Horn of Africa as well. I liked to study this book as it made clear to me, how people as a group decide how to use their contact with the outside world.
Also you could have a look at the PENHA, UK website as they do a lot of research and publication related in the area. This a for now enough I think.

These days there are also a great number of studies on INCLUSIVEness, where it becomes clear that there is transformtion. Also if you study the historical dimension in relation to the neigbourhood and than you can become aware of the development or changes over time and over an area.
This is one of the backgrounds of the study on indigenous knowledge and behaviour as well as the Field of Etnological Studies.
In the past there was an Indigenous Knowledge and Research Centre in Ethiopia in Kenya it is still in function and is called KENRIK, in Nairobi.
