Hi David:

You can use ImageJ plugin FracLac or FracLab implemented in Matlab. In the case of using FracLac you can performed Multifractal analysis from both grayscale and/or binary images. However, FracLac in particular uses the gliding box method. In addition, you can do lacunarity analysis also.

You will note that, in fact, FracLac uses  the Differential Box Counting Method for estimating Fractal Dimensions and Gliding Box Method for Lacunarity camputations for both mono and multifractal analyses.
