The lab has an old GIlson HPLC (2 306 pumps, pressure unit, mixer, injector, UV detector, and 506C RS-232 serial interface) that I would like to get up and running. Everything appears to function mechanically, ie. pumps have been primed, detector fires up, but I cannot go further due to the lack of a control system. Unfortunately, someone scavenged the hard-drive out of the old pc that ran it. I managed to get the software installed on another machine (from the original floppies, which was an ordeal in itself) but this is where I am stuck. The Gilson 715 software was written to run on Windows 2 or 3 and the oldest OS I have is XP. I have yet to figure out how to get the gilson.sys driver to load and thus the software only runs in demonstration mode. After a fair amount of research on the internet I am at a loss on how to get this old 16 bit software to function. Gilson does have updated software but as they do not put any prices on their website I suspect, that as they saying goes, "if you need to ask the price then you probably can't afford it". Putting DOS/Windows 3 on a newer computer probably won't work as the newer hardware (eg. USB ports) will not be recognized by an old OS. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to get the old software to run or an alternate software option that might be available. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
