grind or macerate sample, boil in water for 10-30 min, filter water through clean glass wool/sand, centrifuge, and separate the compounds of interest by sizing on columns or ultrafiltration. For some compounds an ethanol precipitation step is useful, or precipitation by combinations of other organic solvents.
