I performed XRD on a powder of which I do not know the constituents, the result I got showed no peak. Does this mean the sample is not crystalline? If it is not, then what is the implication of having a non crystalline material?
There are a lot of nuances between crystalline and not crystalline. In a pattern without distinct peaks but a broad halo, there may be crystallites which are very small. But without seeing the pattern and knowing the parameters of the measurement... hard to say anything.
Repeat the XRD even in nano-struture powders you will get some peaks. If the crystals have low degrees of periodicity, the result is a broader peak, but you get some .
Hi Sheriff, I will advise that you do EDX or XRF on your powder so as to have an idea about its constituent. May be it is largely composed of organic elements because organic materials are mostly amorphous but with little degree of crystallinity. I suggest that you repeat the experiment.
