I am trying to search for a surface protein in the plasma membrane which expression would be altered when the mitochondrial integrity is disrupted. This way, I can find out whether the mitochondria inside a cell is disrupted or not, without lysing the cell. Do you have any idea regarding this set of proteins?

If mitochondria are injured in a considerable amount you will find a high lactate extrusion because the cell will tend to become glycolytic. In this case is highly possible that you will find monocarboxylate I and IV overexpressed on the cell membrane.

You could use dyes that are sensitive to membrane potential. damaged mitochondria will not be able to sustain membrane potential.
