I notice that this repository [ https://www.preprints.org/ ] claims to cover all subjects. I think the point of a preprint archive is to provide subject specialisation to link scholars and academics who have similar interests to provide a point of reference for emerging research and a place to comment and review new work.

I would advise seeking a preprint server that offers this, such as PeerJ. I note that it is also supported by MDPI, a publisher that has been controversial in the past. See [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDPI ].

As briefly mentioned by Matt Holland , www.preprints.org is a repository site that can be used to deposit their manuscript/revised manuscript before/after (even at the same time) submission to peer-review journal. There are other repository sites (i.e. Open Science Framework http://help.osf.io/m/preprints/l/804253-find-a-preprint-service) than can be accessed.

To answer your question, the main benefit of deposit your manuscript at preprint repository site is increasing the visibility of your manuscript and access to it as part of open science spirit. We know that reviewing process at some journals could take months (or year) and by the time our manuscript published, the findings might not (or less) applicable anymore. The additional benefit, you might get feedback from the readers.
