I'm trying to find out in the development between being an embryo and an adult animal does the animal become phenomenally conscious? I'm especially looking for recommendations for articles on the subject. And I'm especially thinking of smaller animals (like invertebrates) for this question.
if they do it would be much earlier than us for survival reasons. A baby giraffe runs from birth and may need sentience because of the threat of large predators.
I am a panpsychist, so that will confuse your research question significantly. Consciousness permeates the universe. Can you explain please the difference between sentience and consciousness?

sentience I assume would be localised, that is limited to information of senses with responses to that information. Whether this constitutes mind rather than localised awareness, I'm not sure.
