A review article or review paper is based on other published articles. A narrative review explains the existing knowledge on a topic based on all the published research available on the topic. A systematic review searches for the answer to a particular question in the existing scientific literature on a topic. Also consider possible questions raised by reviewer and take note all references should be cited in review article.

Review articles are normally written for new area of research. Research papers from similar areas are reviewed and analogy drawn or new areas are identified. Such review papers are very useful for researchers working in frontiers of knowledge.

While most people see writing as a solitary activity, communal writing – writing with others who are writing – can help to develop confidence, fluency and focus. It can help you develop the discipline of regular writing. Doing your academic writing in groups or at writing retreats are ways of working on your own writing, but – if you unplug from email, internet and all other devices – also developing the concentration needed for regular, high-level academic writing.

At some point – ideally at regular intervals – you can get a lot more done if you just focus on writing. If this seems like common sense, it isn't common practice. Most people do several things at once, but this won't always work for regular journal article writing. At some point, it pays to privilege writing over all other tasks, for a defined period, such as 90 minutes, which is long enough to get something done on your paper, but not so long that it's impossible to find the time.

Very interesting answers, thanks colleagues. It is vice versa, a review author is who is starting interesting in a topic and collecting research about it, the more deep he/she goes in, the more efficient the review is.

Writing a review article does not depend on a researcher’s Own stage of research career. It depends on the need of the field, particularly if there is inclusive evidence from different studies. Systematic review is the most common form but scoping review is OK if there is too large of a volume of existing studies. Sometimes, meta analysis is needed to make summary of findings on relationships highlighted in systematic review.

Review articles should be written by every author after getting sufficient in hand experience on the topic.

Generally, a few related published papers are referred in review articles.

If any student/ novice try to write any review article, it may be like a popular scientific article or "COPY PASTE" article.

It is best that the author of review article from those involved in the same direction, the advice and depth that adds to the sum of previous data is a qualitative addition

I believe that an author is ripe for writing a review after publishing at least 5-6 papers onthe same topic

I think it is necessary for the researcher to write a review article from time to time, and give his opinion of what others are doing, especially if they are at different levels and methodical.

Literature reviews were stuffed with information as if the authors just wanted to cram as many papers as they could into their bibliography. Author must have 10 papers on the topic.

It's easier to write original work than review article. In my opinion, it is better and more useful to write a meta analysis. Review articles are, in my opinion, underestimated.

Experts in the field, or PhD students doing literature survey on their new field, usually write Review Articles. In the review article written by experts, the relative merits and demerits of the various methods adopted for the problem, and historical development of the methods will be given. The PhD students usually give just a summary of the various methods for a standard problem and give the conclusions, which are probably known to most working in the field. Usually I read review articles written by experts to know what is happening in allied fields.

Consider that review articles are not as important as original ones. I think to summarize different researches is required and useful for gaining positive knowledge.

Not time bound i interpret. Whenever you feel you have sufficient expertise and knowledge about a subject, you should try that.

To write a good review article, you should have the latest references, show the results from the cited papers, discuss or compare them, and what is the expected benefits that you can conclude from your review.

I am very open-minded when it comes to accepting invitations to review. I see it as a tit-for-tat duty: Since I am an active researcher and I submit papers, hoping for really helpful, constructive comments, it just makes sense that I do the same for others.

... I read a printed version to get an overall impression. What is the paper about? How is it structured? I also pay attention to the schemes and figures; if they are well designed and organized, then in most cases the entire paper has also been carefully thought out.

When diving in deeper, first I try to assess whether all the important papers are cited in the references, as that also often correlates with the quality of the manuscript itself. Then, right in the Introduction, you can often recognize whether the authors considered the full context of their topic. After that, I check whether all the experiments and data make sense, paying particular attention to whether the authors carefully designed and performed the experiments and whether they analyzed and interpreted the results in a comprehensible way. It is also very important that the authors guide you through the whole article and explain every table, every figure, and every scheme.

I think that a review article must be written by a researcher of high quality and enough experience in the field of specialty not by a researcher with no article or topic. Also it must contain a pronounced critique to a problem discussed by a preceding researcher.

Review articles, in my opinion, can be written by any author who has the skills to extract information from different (already existing) articles on a particular questions and analyse the needs, answer existing questions and proffer future directions/prospects etc. However, some journals would make it clear that authors who want to submit a review article must be an authority (with many published research articles) on the topic.

To my experience, during your research/study life, you may find some gaps on existing literature and once you assure yourself that a particular scientific approach can narrow down the gap, then at this point you can think on writing review paper. As you may know such paper will help you get big research fund/grant too if it is published in well indexed and specific journal.

Any researcher can write a review article on a topic by 'searching' and 'collecting' previously published articles and data from textbooks to summarize them in one review.

Yet, the value of this article would significantly increase if the researcher himself works on / or has already published article about the subject and have enough experience to choose what to add and what not to add to his review.

Criticism of what have already been published and what is needed to be done is an additional bonus.

He must think that this article is for others and not for him so he must write with simplicity and clarity.

Having done some empirical research in a certain field of study before writing a review paper is ideal; however, in my opinion, it is not a must because a review is basically based on previously published research.

It's common for the introduction to end by stating the research aims. By this point you should already have a good impression of them - if the explicit aims come as a surprise, then the introduction needs improvement.

To write a reiew paper, first of all an author must consult numerous, recent publications concerning a research topic!

About the choice of thematic to be addressed is not necessarily in the restricted speciality of the author topic !

To perform such work, an author must be able to write a comprehensive study requiring a high level of scientific understanding, discussion.......

There is no hard and fast rule. Once the author has reached a level of competency they may consider writing review articles on topics.

An author can write a review article when he has sufficient experience in the subject; the investigations that he has carried out will give him the bases for his revision.

I think that it is difficult to write a good review article about a topic without publishing some work related to it. The review paper is not only collection for the concepts and results obtained in the previous work , but it is required well understanding and sufficient experience to value them. Also, these types of study need to convenient description the relationships among the introduced notions and to specify their strength and weakness.

It is intersting question..the authors that wrote a review articles should search for the topics that are related to their field then they can write about..Also the writers should have an enough experience in writing because such type of articles are considers as Scientific Secretariat.

This is our hope. But, writing a review paper without any previous works i thinks it will not be benefit.

Yes Shagun Sir its absolutely normal as Phd scholars have full command in their subjects nd i think they can write the best review papers at the early stage of their research.

I think that the writing of the review paper is done at the beginning of the review of the subject or idea that the researcher wishes to study and requires him to provide all the possible priorities on that subject and review fully and at this point consists of the review sheet

I consider that the articles of revision, are not necessarily based 100% in previous works, what is sought is that, to revise what was already demonstrated in the scientific article, can be a portion of an article, or a model, or a methodology of investigation, In order to reach their own conclusions.
