The choice of cross linker and the pH of the buffer system for cross linking reaction is dependent on solubility and stability of your protein. So consider, the parameters such as pI of your proteins (to prevent precipitations in varied pH conditions) and appropriate cross linker that would work in the relevant buffer system at particular pH.
