I have a L -shaped or Re-entrant corner building. I need to assign the rigid diaphragm to the entire building either in SAP2000 or ETABS. Is assigning the diaphragm the same as one assigns in case of regular buildings or is it different? Because in Re-entrant corner buildings the torsion effect also come into action very widely.
Can anyone help me how to assign the rigid diaphragm for irregular plan buildings?
Am attaching the plan of the building.

Kindly Provide the dimensions of the building.
Generally, you can assign the diaphragm at floor level for L-shape buildings if the width of the "L" is large enough to provide rigidity for the diaphragm and prevent the relative displacement between the building corners.
In some cases when the arms of the "L" are very long - in plan - relative to its width, assigning a single rigid diaphragm for the whole plan will be incorrect.
However, in your case i see many beams forming a grid over the whole floor area which helps in minimizing the relative displacement of the building corners w.r.t each other. this means that you can assign a single rigid diaphragm for each floor level.
Choose the appropriate constraint which represent the actual behavior of the joint.

Assigning rigid diaphragms is the same as regular buildings. But effects of torsion and the eccentericity amplification factor (Aij) must be seen in the analysis.
