i am trying to simulate liquid liquid extraction of DCM + polymer - Water system. The polymer is a new component defined in the aspen plus. i have the data bank in which it is defined. The polymer is soluble in DCM but when ever i run the simulation it shows up in aqueous water stream instead of staying with organic DCM. I would appreciate if some one can suggest any changes that i can make in defining polymer to solve this issue.

Simulation of LL extraction are always troublesome, especially for new components. I would suggest
1. Make sure the data was imported properly from your database, go to Pure component, parameters folder in the Properties view.
2. Make sure Aspen estimated any missing binary parameters. Run the estimation option. Check that Aspen can determine the molecular formula, for this you may need to provide a chemical structure.
3. the most critical part is to choose a proper property model or method. In the options of the LL extraction column try various methods, including NRTL, UNIQUAC, NRTL-LL. Always search in the literature which model has been used for the type of components you have in your process.
If you would like I can have a look at the simulation and make a more specific suggestion.

As suggested by the @Elias, binary parameters and the model selection are very important. Kindly check the binary interaction parameter for the possible error.

I tried the steps you defined i did had some luck after i added the structure but the polymer was still carrying over in the aqueous phase. I tried a trial and error method by changing the calculated (by aspen ) "B" interaction parameter for aq -polymer and organic - polymer. doing this made a drastic change and seemed like it works. Now i would appreciate if some one can explain this change in a scientific way.
The component is proprietary so i can't share the file.
