4. What is their level of faith in reaction to the spread of the virus? High, average and low

5. What is the level of their faith on healing members who are victim of covid-19

6. Do they believe in self isolation of members who are victim of covid-19.

One question that I am sure on everyone's mind and can be asked to the religious sociologist and the scientific sociologist that they are going to have give a thorough answer to from the Bible or from Science and that question is "Why is God allowing this happen?"

I’m not in sociology of religion (I study psychology of religion), but we will probably be asking questions about religious coping, religious motivation (why do people particiapte in religion? Is it different during COVID-19 than during other more “normal” times?), meaning-making (e.g., why do things like this happen), religion and psychological resilience, etc.

Many people rely on religion because it provides them with comfort and makes sense of their existence. During COVID-19 most churches and mosques shut down.

You might want to ask them about their feelings and what this means to them (open-end question). Also, ask them if what happened strengthened or weakened their faith? What do they make of the fact that during this crisis the world relied on science rather than religion? Did their religion help them cope with the situation?

One more thing is asking them what they think of the religious groups who didn't follow the rules and insisted on gathering and praying to their Gods which resulted in making the situation worse and spreading the virus.

From a theological perspective that recognizes the need for sociological research on the COVID pandemic my view of important questions concerns what may be new in religious thinking and struggling, what new questions are surfacing, and to what extent they are culturally contextual. Are questions more or less in the line of theodicy, variations on how can a good God allow such a natural evil as COVID? a line of thought going back to the Book of Job and to philosophers coping with the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755. Or, does something different emerge? And, what image of God surfaces in people interpreting COVID in light of religious convictions?

Another option would be to asses motivations for engagin in religious practice, religious experiences, and religious participation whule social distancing. How are peoples’ experiences different, now that most religious services (at least in the US) are all held online instead of in-person?

In the face of such outbreak, it has been discussed about the accountability and role of societies -- mainly in terms of capitalism -- and humanity as a whole. In this regard, to what extent do religious institutions and its followers acknowledge agency of humans in contrast of agency of supreme beings? In addition, how could such divine retribution be conceived as godly punishment? Could humanity redeem itself through new lifestyles, or is this irreversible?

I have a picture of our house rainbow. All school children are drawing rainbows as a sign of faith and as a way of supporting each other. When we walk for our exercise everywhere pictures of rainbows are on house windows as a sign of togetherness. It's lovely, some houses have rainbows on every window. I'd be interested in knowing how COVID-19 has affected family dynamics as parents and children are all at home at the same time. Some of the negative effects that have surfaced is the increase in physical abuse. What have been the positive effects? Has there been a re-connection? A recognition of the value of family? Healed relationships? God ordained families and I believe God wants them reflect the loving covenant God has established with us. Have families moved further away from that or closer to that?

As an researcher, what might interest us can divide into 3 aspect, pre, during and post C19. From the religious aspect of Covid 19 as Muslims we believe that it is a test from God relatively connected what we have done as a chosen caliph for this world.

During the pandemic we can look in to how is the severity and effect of the pandemic, the mobility and motality  cases related to the action has been taken by the authorities in every country. Gerardo, I think we should make research on the environmental impact of big cities over the health of human beings like New York, Florida, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Tokio in Japan, Wuha in China where they eat limbs separated from living animals and drink their blood, Rome in Italy with millions of people living together. With no social distance among them, with a lot of stress and anxiety, coughing and sneezing over each other in small spaces and in public transportation systems like the metros that are always crowded. What are the effect they have over our behavior and over our immunological systems? Is healthy to live like that? We have data or information about this trends and patterns of behavior? Probably they lower our defenses being the reason we have this type of pandemias. Should we change our urbanization standards or housing models as well as the sewage systems. Are they appropriate for millions of people living together? Is this good for human beings or is creating more neurosis , paranoia, deficient health systems that can help explain what is happening now and how to deal with it or prevent from happening again? I always knew that the ideal population size is no more than 500,000 people. Should we be reviewing the size of our cities and our standards of living? Are they really as high as we believe or the the other way around? What really happens with the big cities are they the best habitats for human beings as we believe? Why they have been always condemned by the Bible as places of idolatry like Canan,Babel or Rome of sin and corruption of sickness? Is there a scientific reason for all of this or just story tales or narratives?

One of the areas we can look into is how COVID-19 has affected the issue of faith healing in Christianity. We can also explore the effect COVID-19 is having on Religious Organizations finances, and charity works towards members of such organizations at this period when palliatives are necessary.

Possible research on sociology of religion could be focused on:

1. How religious communities and congregations maintain their community life amidst the threat of virus

2. How faith contributes to the sustenance of total health and state of wellbeing of individuals, families and communities

3. How worship rules, structures, functions and rituals have adapted to the situation, thus evolving into a culture of new normal

Read the section on churches. You will be shocked at Collins' prediction. I know I was. But that was before a local Methodist church shut down when one of its staff tested positive.

When I asked "Which church?" I was responding to the broad generalization.

There is no such thing as "the church." There are many churches (denominations) and within each denomination there are many congregations.

Some denominations and congregations have an ecclesiology that permits them to be just as active and vibrant using the internet as when they are having in-person worship services and meetings - as well as new initiatives of reaching out in faith formation and service.

And, of course, there are some that do not have that kind of ecclesiology - have an ecclesiology that is inflexible.

Because the "Church," as in "believers everywhere" is a nice idea, and Jesus may look at the earth and His Bride ("the church") that way - romantically? - but it does nothing NOW for the true worship of God in spirit and in truth. (see John 4, where Jesus told the worshippers of "Israel meaning Jacob's descendants" (another pickle, or morass as to who is Israel, if not some of the Samaritans, even now at Mt. Gerizim, in the occupied West Bank). In South Africa, despite the end of apartheid, the "church" wants to keep the previous "separate" orders unless modified by some liberal denominations. We are still most segregated - apart-hate - during worship and prayer. Few "whites" take seriously the credentials of other churches, especially those of persons of color. I am praying daily for my nation, the USA, and as many families - saved and unsaved - as possible. But COVID19 has not let up, and my energy and/or faith, is flagging respecting the Church having any real solutions. It is an institution as was the Catholic Church that Martin Luther helped expose. I agree with Anil, generally, church is a creation of circumstantial. For that reason, the ecclesiology of each church will be different from each other to nurture their members.

For example, churches after reformation developed theologies and ecclesiology in avoidance to Catholicism. Yet, COVID 19 throws every church into disarray. But each developed their own ecclesiology to reach their members.

I am interested in knowing how a religious institution's theology influenced its response to the virus.

The Jesus and bride metaphor is found extensively in the Old Testament, so not new. As nevertheless prayer and mediation is common to these religions, they will survive. Churches, etc, were essential to the organisation of the christian belief system and not its orignial (whatever that was) core beliefs. The original Way of Life notions could just as well be conducted at a distance.

Every religious response to a natural (or engineered) event like this public and global health crisis, depends on the hermeneutic approach and scripture used. If we approach ‚the virus‘ from the religious light of reason, we can conclude that humanity is ethically still far away from a human-species appropriate life style. Human religions can, maybe, help to clarify the behavioral ethics for a more ecological life-style, with respect to human survival and enhanced conviviality.

Stephen a very good answer. My son said to me that now perhaps humankind can clean up their act and give the planet a breather. In some ways, the same idea. Its something that needed to happen for our sake.

Of course the earth is cleaning itself up so perhaps the appropriate religion is Gaia and we should go back to her and tend again to her needs. The communal worship of trees and flowers and the spirits of the land seems ok by me.
