Can you provide an example of a mismatch: e.g., personal ethics of the individual physician specialist vs. e.g., the ethics of a specific specialty organization (unnamed of course}? Probably better to provide use a hypothetical case with no one's personal ethics named and no professional group named?
For example, various cardiology groups may hold the position that cardiologists are placing too many implantable defibrillators in old patients today while the personal ethical belief of an individual cardiologist holds that age should not be a factor in consideration of placement of an implantable patient as long as the patient (whatever age) fully understands the risks to self and risks to others.
If one changes his or her profession and e.g., leaves on field of specialization and goes into another, the ethics of each of the two fields of specialization may differ. And the physician will have to adopt the ethics of his or her second field.
There are two classes of people in the scenario you have cited. The first group are the dedicated group who have the ideals of hardwork and dedication ingrained in their hearts and are willing to transfer the same pace of dedication from the 'admired' profession they were once fascinated to a quite uninteresting or 'inferior' profession. These persons are the changers of the world and the bearers of development pipes in countries.
The second class people are those who have variance in the dedication of their work/professional ethics when they quit their choicest profession to another one which to them is 'inferior'. They tend to slow the pace of commitment to the second choice jobs. These persons have the highest numbers in the global community. This attitude, certainly lower efficiency expected in that field of work and thus, fans off the coals of development in a nation.
The way forward for global change in professionalism associated with work in industries and institutions is to cultivate the ethics of commitment to work no matter the employment avenue available to one even if its not his/her specialty. If this feat is achieved, the would would realise the successes in development it seeks.
Personally, I got my first employment as an I.C.T. teacher in a primary school after my first degree though it was not my choicest profession and certainly not closer to my area of specialization. Yet, I was able to hone the computer literacy skills of the young lads and the district honored me. When my dedication to the teaching of I.C.T. in the primary school was popularized, I was elevated to help the very matured in my area of specialization at the tertiary level. My dedication and hardwork to a profession has never wavered no matter the kind of work. Thanks
Researchers supposed to be trained to take ethical consideration into account. Each specialization, as I think, depends on certain criteria and this is begin from the the first course of study in order to be ready to apply them later time.
Dear Anirbid Sircar, do you mean that Ethics need to be practiced whether you are in a single profession or multiple profession, even you are facing a challenge of profession's quit?
