I just thawed my 4T1 cancer cells and 24 hours after seeding the cells in the T25 flask there were somethings beside my cells. The culture medium is pretty clear and there is no more than 6 or 7 fiber like things. Do you have any idea what they might be?
I just uploaded four pictures in 10X and 40X of these things under an inverted microscope.
It looks like dust and hair (you can even see typical keratin color) to me. If it's fungi it will rapidly grow in the media so by now you will know for sure (highly doubt it, however). There is nothing good about having impurities in your media but it usually does not lead to culture contamination as long as you have pen/strep in the media.
looks like some artifacts from HI FBS; to make sure it is not a living thing, take a few aliquotes of your media and place it in an empty well with a regular media (w/o cells).
