There is document difference in visual field defects of open angle and closed angle but how the pattern differ in acute and chronic types of closed angle i could not find in literature. When a patient with closed angles present to us in acute phase just impossible to do visual field due pain etc ( acute rise of intra-ocular pressure). Following links might be helpfull:-
Dear John, my personal clinical experience of three decades shows that the final differences in visual field defects between acute and chronic types of angle closure glaucoma (ACG) do exist and pattern is also different and field loss loss in acute glaucoma is partially reversible in cases of early intervention. The main difference, which I have observed, is the predominant involvement of peripheral field in chronic ACG and involvement of central field in Acute ACG.
If we look at the optic nerve head in Acute CG it has non specific changes like congestion initially and cupping subsequently. The central defects in Acute CG could be explained by Optic nerve dysfunction due to acute rise in IOP.
