I am no independent research and I have experienced first hand how challenging it could be to stumble on an article that you think would be a good read or contribution to a write-up that you are undertaking and can only have free access to the abstract. Most paywalled journals charge exorbitant fees to full access for a limited period. I have submitted an article to one of such journals but want to make use of their Gold standard publication option, which will allow access to unfunded researchers and those whose's institutions cannot afford access fees. I was, therefore, wondering if there are institutions or organizations where one could apply for a payment fee for such publications.

I have read some of the publishers' policy about the gold open access fee for authors, some of them give discounts on article processing charge (APC) to researchers that are affiliated to institutions in developing countries or research4life eligible countries (see https://www.research4life.org/access/eligibility/ for details).
