Are there indirect methods for measuring density of a non-homogenious materjal?

I need to measure a density of a piece of egg shell indirectly. Not by just dividing its weight and volume. Are there some alternative ways to do that? The shell basically consists of CaCO3 but of different structure and a lot of pores make it non-homogenuos.
