The magnetic field is vortex. It cannot do work. This question is wider than about the clip. Meteorite, flying up to the Earth, is accelerating. Who gave him the energy to accelerate? The Earth has no "extra" energy. There is only one answer: the external environment is the source of energy of attraction.
Look at the picture, please. If there were no force, the Moon would have gone from point A to point B. But let's fix the jet engine on the left. Together with it, the Moon will go from point A to point C. The work of this engine is the energy transferred to the Moon. Earth does not attract the Moon. The electromagnetic field environment "pushes" the Moon to Earth. I am wrong?

Strength is a measure of the interaction of two bodies. One body gives energy, and the other body receives energy. The electric motor receives energy from the combustion of fuel in a power plant. The magnetic field only transmits this energy. After a collision with a magnet, the “excess” energy of the clip goes into heat. The magnetic field of the magnet does not change. The source of acceleration must be outside the attracting bodies.
