If you read Portuguese, you need to study the memories of the Portuguese colonel, later general, António Figueira de Almeida (1781-1847), a friend of Ioannis Kapodistrias and responsible for arresting his murderers. Almeida was one of the Portuguese that fought for Napoleonic France during the Peninsular War and arrived in Greece in 1825 in the filo-Hellenic mission of Charles Nicolas Fabvier. Almeida was one of the main organizers of the modern Greek army and later governor of Aegina and Nafplion. His memories were written in Portuguese, translated into French, and studied all the international context, including the role of Russia in the so-called Balcan or "Oriental" question.
