I agree,but Rufford is good option but again RSG supports more conservation related projects, this depends on what species you want to work and what region ? You may also try SGP of WWF, Denver Zoological Foundation, WCS and many other, let me know the main objective of your work.

I concur re Terra Viva grants as a good source online for good information on upcoming calls for proposals and general information on donor organizations.

The german NGO "Environmental Education and Sciences" (ENEDAS) offers the following small grant - The Johann Christian Wiegleb scholarship for field work:

We envision ourselves as supporters of environmental research. In scientific research, ecological and biological studies that are associated with intensive field work bear a special challenge.

The Johann Christian Wiegleb scholarship for field work, launched by ENEDAS, primarily aims to mitigate the special efforts associated with field work.

You can try Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, although they prefer to focus on a single-species projects.

Rufford for your reason seems slightly better as it prefers to fund projects which are focused on landscape level. Also they like projects about promotion of the nature protection.

Finally, you better open the webpages of the Funds and look what projects they already supported.

I would also suggest Rufford as an option.  Clearly though, there seems to be a real gap in terms of funding support for these types of projects since there are so few options out there. 

Try at this link: https://www.feedingknowledge.net/best-practices. It is a project for expo2015. I do not know if there are funds but sure that visibility will be high.

Look at the British Ecological Society Outreach Grants. Unlike their other grants you do not have to be a member to apply but it is worth considering membership for many other professional reasons (see their website). Overseas grant applications are encouraged. There are 2 application rounds each year, the next one is September 2014

Note that the score for each grant is 50:50 (project:suitablity of the applicant) so make sure you explain why you and any collaborators are qualified and experienced enough to receive an award.

(none of their employees cares if the projects financed - no matter when - by UNDP have any result...)

In Europe the ERDF funds the promotion of the territorial cohesion and environmental protection for a sustainable development and the preservation of biodiversity .

I fully agree that in the context of increasingly faster climate change processes and increasing environmental pollution, systems for international financing of pro-ecological projects should be created. As part of these systems, international institutions should be created to finance projects for implementing ecological reforms, creating and implementing eco-innovation, etc. Grants should be awarded for research projects in the field of biodiversity protection. In Europe, the institutions that can finance such projects are, for example, European Union subsidy programs, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. On a global scale, the World Bank may be such an institution. However, such programs for international financing of ecological projects are still underdeveloped.
