The COVID-19 situation has prompted many to use ZOOM app and Echo360 app. ZOOM, with its sharing, breakout sessions, whiteboard, chat, and other features appears as the outstanding solution for online education. But, there have been complaints as well (though many of these could be handled through security settings). What other options than ZOOM are efficient for online learning purposes?
There are many tools for meetings or teaching online, and I will recommend Google Meet or Hangouts Meet app (Android). Google Meet allow you to make videos of your meetings/on-line classes, but recording features are available with the G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for Education editions.

Despite its recent popularity, since Zoom offers the same menu for every institution, it will have problems if it does not evolve in time. For this reason, it should be accepted that technical universities like IT faculties will develop their own software. As Istanbul Technical University, we started using our own software in a period of 2 weeks.

Certainly, Zoom isn't the only option for online meeting and share. Many of the professional bodies in Australia using 'Cisco Webex Meetings' which has better security than Zoom, although navigation and features aren't fancy. Small companies are using Google Hangouts Meet, which is undoubtedly a good competitor of Zoom. I heard about 'BlueJeans' and 'Cisco Jabber' that these two are doing good, however, I didn't personally try these two yet.

In the context of education, I think it is a problem for students if every teacher makes independent decisions about technology. This means that students may need to learn different technology systems for every one fo their classes.

Zoom is fine, they made also updates and added patches to fix the issues related to a surge of usage during the pandemic. It always depends what’s the content and purpose of the use of the tool. If it is for meetings, webinars, e-learning and so forth, then Zoom is fine. Just remember if you use it for recording, to make sure it doesn’t store the links of the recording online.

Zoom has good features, the zoom problem is that it is currently over-demanded. Thus, sometimes availability can limit your connection time (I personally use it a lot, and I am very satisfied with this program).
Another good option that has not been mentioned here is Jitsi meet, which is free, https://jitsi.org/jitsi-meet/. Jitsi which has the "advantage" of being free and open source, and works for unlimited users. It has practically the same options as zoom, and you find in internet a series of tutorials and documents that make it easy to use.
Jitsi does require that you have an associated dropbox account to host the recordings you want to make, but when there is a high demand for zoom, it is my preferred option.

you should try out the Discord app. It is actually an app for gamers and it is very productive and has no time limit. You can let your students work in groups or pairs, show pictures, quote, draw etc.
It would be better if you had a friend who can explain you the interface but once you understood it the app gets pretty simple and convinient in use.
