Although review article requires a lot of effort and time in writing, and despite the fact that many excellent articles that are published in reputable journals are considered to us as a rich information base on which we rely on writing research papers and theses for doctorates and masters ... Also, many of these articles are attached to our memory and we refer to them constantly for the scientific benefit, but unfortunately in our universities, they are not approved as research in the scientific promotion and are considered community service, and this frankly is unfair and affects us a lot because it makes us move away from writing these articles even though they are relevant great scientific value, with great regret.
My question, Are there universities in world, have accepted a review papers that published by their researchers, when they want to get new scientific promotions?
I totally agree with Prof. Aparna. Similarly, reviews articles are not considered for the promotion in grade. Books, books chapters and original research articles in the domain are accepted for promotion.

It depends on the quality of the journal in which the article appears. However, as a general rule, review articles do not carry as much weight as research articles
It is true that review articles do not carry as much weight as original research articles. Also these are accepted by publishing houses for journals, not Universities, unless the University has its own journal publication.
Dear Dr. Manal Hadi thanks for the great contribution. The last sentence is a sad but it is a fact. We as scientists should keep in mind that all our efforts are not only relevant to our promotion in grade.
For me reviews articles when they properly wrote have a huge number of citations and authors benefits from that. They established thier reputation as reference in the subject /thematic / and research areas.
Great discussion! To the best of my knowledge in terms of publication, the main condition to count your publish paper in your KPI and promotion is having it published in eather Scopus or the Web of Science database! Besides, review papers are the most cited papers!!
Honestly, I've never heard such condition in Malaysia or in the GCC!
Can any one give further precisions on which universities are not counting review papers in the scientific promotion!!
Unfortunally it is not accepted for promotion in my university in scientific faculties but accepted in art and literacy fields although it takes a great effort from all scientists working in all areas hopefully next years they change the rules thanks
I am from Europe (live in Finlnad) and here they treat review articles to have same level of value as other research articles. Nature published guidelines:
Andy Tay (2020). How to write a superb literature review: Nature speaks to old hands and first timers about the work they did to make their reviews sing. 09 December 2020, Career Feature, Nature, Open Access:
Mukhlif M.S. , in my institution, review articles are accepted for promotions, but they have to fulfill certain criteria and not exceed a certain proportion of submitted research papers for promotion.
Dear Dr. Yannick Stephane Fongang Fotsing I totally agree with you, Doctor, because we, as scholars, are always interested in the scientific value of our research and our literature, in my opinion, the scientific value is the treasury of the researcher who always strives to preserve and develop it. My sincere gratitude doctor.
Definitely this was a quite good question Dr. Mukhlif. I understand since I started to write books chapters that lot of informations are actually available, but sometimes we are passing through these when reading papers. To write a relevant book chapter of a weighly review, authors should collect all available data on the topic, read them one by one to design thier own work. After then the most difficult is to verify if it has been properly wrote, drawn or if the interpretation was correct. It required great efforts and when published. I thing that author's salaries will the satisfaction of readers paid in terms of citations or invitation to join a similar projects. Let's keep working hard for our personal and collective achievements.
At my institution, review articles are not accepted for promotion, they must meet certain criteria and not exceed a certain proportion of submitted scientific papers. This practice is widespread in academic universities.
Yes! and, above all, those that have their own Publishing or Editorial Service and, even more, those that require a number of Publications from the doctoral student in order to defend their Doctoral Thesis.
