I recently saw an example of water-hammering effect example of COMSOL Multiphysics.
The example shows that the sudden closing of a valve produces pressure-shock through out the pipe upstream to it. However, the simulation do not show the damping oscillations after some lapse of time.
Can anyone suggest the required changes in the simulation to bring in this effect?

You need to put in the water-hummer model (whtd) for pipe properties, flow resistance, friction model, for expl. Darcy friction factor (fd) see eq. etc.
Example do not have any math damping for this model.

Thanks for your answer. I would like to ask one more thing:
I saw that only pipe in 1D can be used with whtd. But let's say, I have a structure attached to the pipe. The structure is in 3d. Can I get to see the hammer effect from pipe to the structure? Because whtd cannot take domains. It just takes edges into account.
Please help me to get clear on this.

Yes, you right, I think you should add your own 3D domain equation in this model (if it not enough for you in 3d on edges simulation), cause water hummer interface by default:
...The resulting equations are expressed in the cross-sectional averaged variables and reduce the equations to a 1D model with scalar field variables. The physics interface is available in 3D on edges and at points, and in 2D on boundaries and points.
