I received several strains of H. pylori. They are still frozen and i'd like to plate them. I don't have much information about those strains.
Usually i work with H. pylori 26695 and add some vancomycin in my media because this strain is naturally resistant to vancomycin.
My questions are : Are all H. pylori strains resistant to vancomycin?
And should i use antibiotics or not the first time i will pass them?
H. pylori is naturally resistant to vancomycin. In our lab, we culture H. pylori on both: plate with antibiotics and without, during first passage. On platets with antibiotics H. pylori grows a little slower (environmental stress) but also has a lower risk of contamination.
Some of strains may be can tolerate vancomycin. But, most of them are naurally resistant against vancomycin. You csn plate your strains with antibiotics plate and without antibiotic plates. Normally, Tetracyclines, chloramphenicol are good antibitics against H.pylori.
The great majority are resistant to this antibiotic that is not used inclined as an eradicate therapy, of course
