As I know, the natural gas supplied to the residential and commercial buildings is basically used for heating and maybe for cooking. But what are the other possible ways in which the natural gas can be used in the buildings, particularly, industrial buildings ??

You can also use natural gas from the district distribution network to generate Electrical Power in a small scale to supply some commercial/industrial buildings.
I'am talking about Microturbines.
Microturbines are a solution to generate electricity in a small scale, in a reliable way and with a demand of relatively small spaces, also they are exempt to the problems of high noise levels, vibrations and high levels of pollution generation.
This is a compact turbine which is power by a burner, (this is where you need the feeding of the Natural Gas) that spins an electric generator, which transforms this mechanical motion into electrical energy. These turbines are very compact, and can be placed in sets in roofs of commercial building to supply all or partially the power demand of the building. For example in Supermarkets, Hotels, Commercial Centers, etc, etc.
As with any other power generation technology where you are lack of an storage systems as batteries, you would need a well designed control and energy management system.
Another nice feature of this technology is that they can be feed not only with natural gas, but with other fossil fuel-based as Propane, Biogas (from landfill or organic digester) and also with liquid fuels like Gas LP (LNG I guess, in america)

Natural gas canbe used to generate heat, operate cooking ovens/stoves, and may be utilized to produce electricity power.

The summary of monthly utility bills available in my hands includes the consumption of both natural gas and electricity. The annual consumption of electricity is about 1 million kilowatts while natural gas consumption is about 2.8 million kilowatts. Based on these figures, I think that natural gas is used for on-site generation purposes.
My question is :
What are the benefits of generating such this amount of energy on-site? Please note that the on-site generated energy using natural gas is 2.8 times the purchased electricity.
