I am working on expanding a uveal melanoma cell line, but the doubling time is 80 hours and it appears to take about 2-3 weeks for 40-60% confluency in a T25 flask. The growth rate is very slow and I am wondering if anyone has experience with the optimal conditions to grow these types of cells. Also, I am considering passing the cells and allowing them to grow in a six-well plate dish. Maybe the cells will have closer contact and give off growth signalling. Any information would be of great help.

Try a colloidal solution of microparticles of cerium dioxide to activate cell growth.
The expected result is a 2 or more times reduction.
Very important in the cultivation of cells of uveal melanoma is the percentage of oxygen in the environment (the oxidative process affects the metabolism of cells).
Using these two factors, you can achieve good results, significantly reducing the time of doubling.

I do not work with them at this time, but I have much experience growing uveal melanoma. Are you using a cell line? Or are these a primary culture?
These are the MP38 cell line. I went ahead and plated them at 400,000 cells per well in a 12-well dish and they appear to be growing better. It looks as though they may like growing closer together.
I don't have experience with those cells, but it sounds like you may be on the right track.
The proliferation rate varies greatly between different Uveal Melanoma cell lines. In my experience, ”Mel 270” cells grow really fast. They would reach >90 % confluency in a T75 flask in a week. On the other hand, ”M20-09” cells, and the line you are using, seem to grow much slower. Consequently, this is not necessarily a matter of medium conditions etc.
