Just got some shotgun sequencing data and have been trying to find an efficient way to analyze the metagenomes for soil organic matter (SOM) degradation functional potential. I'm fairly familiar with KEGG and have used it in the past by selecting many very specific enzyme classification (EC) numbers for proteins like peroxidase, B-glucosidase, cellobiosidase, leucyl aminopeptidase, etc. I recently started looking at SEED subsystems as well. But there is not a specific pathway or grouping of proteins that are specifically used for the decomposition of SOM. I am just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for this. Or if there is a scientific standard suite of enzymes to focus on. Any advice is appreciatated! thanks!
