Carbuncle in French, Spanish and some other Latin languages, ‘anthrax’ is the term commonly applied to a carbuncle, whilst ‘charbon’ (French), or a similar related
word, describes infection with Bacillus anthracis. Flucloxacillin or another penicillinase-resistant antibiotic should be given. Diabetes and other possible underlying conditions should be sought.
In our setup diabetes melitis is very common and patient present with large diabetic carbunles due to necrosis of subcutaneous tissue with multiple opening sinuses on the skin. These are multi-organism infections and are treated by a number of mehods from incision drainage to wide saucerization and skin grafting. However, I am unable to find anything meaningful on the internet
