Hi,
I have a few samples of conditioned media with exosomes and I would like to concentrate and lyophilize them but I can’t find any protocols online. I could use the standard protocols but I am not sure if they will work or harm the exosomes in any way... does anybody have a protocol or know where I could get one?

Unfortunately, there is no commonly used method to preserve the structural and biochemical integrity of exosomes and the therapeutic efficacy of long-term storage at ambient temperature. I have seen in some patents a method of lyophilizing exosomes by using an exosome suspension in a lyophilization buffer containing trehalose at less than 10% w/v.
Because of the membrane structure of exosomes, it is recommended to preserve extra exosomes in liquid nitrogen (better) or -80 degrees by snap-freezing technique(a bit the same as cells preservation). Have a look at the attached page for reference.
