Hello Everyone, I tried to find reports on the presence (and, ideally, quantity) of host-derived DNA in the saliva/oral secretions/regurgitate of herbivores. A quick screening of the literature on environmental DNA (eDNA) revealed diverse reports on the use of herbivore-derived DNA from saliva that remains on partly eaten plants to determine the spectrum of herbivores that attack the plant, but I am looking for the opposite: plant-derived DNA in the saliva of herbivores. Besides the study by Francesca Barbero, Massimo Maffei & group et al. on Extracellular Self-DNA (esDNA), ... induced signalling, I did not find any study. Any hint concerning existing information would be welcome! Thanks, Martin
