This is a standard arithmetic error when you divide by zero. Dividing by zero gives an infinity error as you know very well. If you read in the wikipedia page, you will get more details. In computing too, a program error may result if you attempt to divide by zero. Bascially, when you execute your model in ERDAS model maker, 'Band4-Band5' somewhere you get a zero value in the denominator. Therefore, ERDAS Imagine pops up this error message.

Here is a solution. I created a simple NDVI (NIR-Red)/(NIR+Red) model some years back in ERDAS Imagine model maker. Using a conditional statement you can avoid the 'division by zero' error. You can use the same method for any bands in a satellite image. I have attached an image of the model. Let me know if you can follow the model.
