Hello friends, I want to add magnesium as fuel in Fluent. However, there is no magnesium as a chemical reaction. How can I add the reaction scheme of this. I want to create a gas-oxygen and magnesium combustion reaction.
Fluent always gives you the flexibility of creating your own species and reaction set. It can be done in two ways (1) Use a chemkin files and import in fluent, (2) Create you own reaction mechanism by first adding the important species required for combustion in materials. After that including the reactions in the models.
Syed is correct. It is very flexible for the users to “create” the chemical reaction (Mg combustion), while which should be based on the experimental data. You should Consider the concentrations of co2 and o2 etc. Also, initial temperature and pressure. You must be very careful for the shape and size of Mg, which is in power, or lump? If it is power, what size of the powers ? You should obtain the data from the experimental data or reliable theoretical analysis, then, you can design the reaction (Combustion) in Fluent
You just have to add magnesium as a new material to your system as separate or mixture with gas-oxygen but you should specified the properties very carefully..... go to ..> setup> material> fluid > write the name of your fluid you want to add like (magnesium), chemical formula and then fill the properties > then click > change/create > then click No, this process it will create the new fluent fluid material and then you can apply it in you domain (project), this is how to add the fuel to fluent material database.
That is okay i added magnesium properties in fluid material section. But what I want to learn is this. Even if I add this material in the materials part, I cannot determine the mass fraction value of it as fuel in the species section, so the material I added does not participate in the combustion.
