Hi!

I am creating my first ansys apdl model, which I'm doing by commands, and have a question in regards of the transition of the mesh. The model is a composite slab with a concrete part resting on a steel sheet. I want the mesh to be more fine at the steel part and to gradually get more coarse as it descends upwards. My question is what is the best way, in regards of quality, to make this transition. I've attached a picture of first the meshed steel sheet and the first transition part of the model and two approaches to this (one with refined mesh in the middle and one with refined mesh in the corners). As seen, the model keeps the finer areas, could I transform these areas into more coarse areas by using hex elements or do I have to use tetra elements to achieve this? I would like the model to transform in to a all even coarse quad surface. And in addition, which model of the two should I go with? Any help is welcomed.
