An SCI journal, published by Springer, associated with a University, published a paper in 2007. Recently, me and my colleagues identified that the authors of that paper executed a model incorrectly and the results produced are not reproduce-able. We submitted a NOTE to the Journal Editor who sent me the following email:
"We have withdrawn your submission from our submission queue. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Thank you very much. "
When i asked the reason he replied,
"Thanks for your attention. However, this kind of note is usually invited from the Editorial office, and that paper was published in 2007, which is too old to comment on. We have removed your submission from our submission queue. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions."
What should be our next step? What should be done?
You could try the Editorial Board members, and complain to the publisher. If the journal is sponsored by an academic association or society, complain to them. Otherwise, lodge your note publicly in a research database and refer people to it in future publications related to the topic - meanwhile, draw as much attention to it as you can by whatever means are available.

You could write another paper with the correct model. and cite the wrong model in your paper, indicating that the previous model is incorrect, and explain why it is incorrect.
In addition to these, I think you could try contacting the authors explain this to them. They might have an explanation or they could contact the editorial office themselves if they are convinced that the model was really incorrect.

You could write a paper citing the 2007 paper, pinpointing the errors. Citations could be a negation and a criticism too, as you probably know.
