My PhD dissertation contains some novel models; almost each chapter is one model (except first and last chapters). Except one or two, all are expected to remain unpublished till my Defense, which is approaching soon. I'm wondering should i publish "them" first as papers and then publish my dissertation as book or should i publish dissertation first and papers later.

Papers published in standard periodicals are usually better reviewed than books. I published my papers first and then the thesis in the form of a book through my department. The updated data from my papers were also included in the book with proper citations.
I do agree Papers first. Then a book with practical illustrations and cases!
Get as many papers published out of your thesis. It will have more value than publishing everything together as a book.
