I'm interest in studying speciation of mercury in natural water. Solid Phase Micro Extraction is to be used as the main extraction technique and detection using several gas chromatography. The area of study will cover part of Peninsular Malaysia. I would be pleased to hear any suggestions from fellow researchers, especially any kind of interest in improvement that could be explored in terms of analytical chemistry. One of the highlighted aspects I was planning to use is a new derivative agent Et4BMgBr. I would appreciate it if fellow researchers could share their experience.
did you look into liquid-liquid extraction? You can read up details on this method in Monperrus et al, 2005. Basically it is suggested that ethylation is to best for fresh water and propylation best for seawater. We use the same method, but hooked up to a sector field-ICP-MS to yield a detection limit at low femtomolar range and routinely apply it to natural water analysis. you can find some details here:
