To analysis the response and mechanisms of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, our team tried to induce hypertrophy by adding adrenergic agonists to the medium of neonatal mouse cardiomyocytes. And hypertrophic markers including the expression of ANP and BNP were detected by RT-qPCR. However, contrary to what we expected, the expression of hypertrophic markers decreased after the use of stimulators. The phenylephrine (50μM, 100μM, 200μM) and Angiotensin 2 (5μM, 10μM) have already been tried, and the drugs were added to medium without serum. Could you please recommend some other methods of inducing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in vitro? Thanks a lot for your help!
You could try steroids such as dexamethasone. This is reported to induce hypertrophy in humans and I have seen a few cases in both neonates and adults.
