Both the concepts can't be compared honestly speaking. If STCR is primarily meant to monitor nutrient supply level , then IPNS is meant to accomplish the constraints revealed by STCR on a nearly real time basis. Let's us try to address , how should we address STCR in Fruit crops..??

If you really want to compare sustainability between them, I think STCR is more sustainable because soil is the backbone to store and supply of the nutrient and use efficiency of different nutrient supply from outside are almost constant.

STCR (Soil Test Crop Response) is more sustainable in comparison to IPNS (Integrated Plant Nutrient Supply).

I don't think they are any difference betwwen good and bad. They all need a lot of field experiments or soil or plant test, more important it need rich experence to use them rational.

Unfortunately , in perennial fruit crops, STCR hold very littel ot offer. We have decision support developed for leaf analysis-based fertilizer recommendation in citrus uisng nurient uptake data by fruits, since this is the major source responsible for mining nutrients ....

In case of STCR and IPNS the STCR is more suitable for plant as compare to IPNS for soil health.

I think both are important in crop production. IPNS may refer supply of balance or judicial application of different nutrients formed in various fertilizers or organic, where as STCR implies the actual needs of different nutrients for a crop in a soil before planting.

IPNS is an integrated and holistic approach that uses both organic and inorganic fertilizers with help to sustain the soil fertility , and STCR is a rationalised fertilizer prescription approach based on the soil test results so farmers can get more profit from less fertilizer inputs .

In my point , IPNS is more sustainable than STCR , as IPNS is adding organic material to soil to sustain fertility.

Exactly , STCR and IPNS are quite different with different working premises. STCR is used for fertilizer recommendation ,while IPNS is a comprehensive nutrient managemnt startegy. Both of them have hardly any comparison between them....

Logically , soil test crop response is more sustainable as compared to IPNS as in soil test crop response, first we go for soil testing so as to examine the nutrient concentration followed by applying those nutrients to meet its requirements to check response of the crop...Means, what so ever nutrient is lacking or in deficient, to maintain the sustainability, we are supposed to supply it...moreover in IPNS, we provide integrated applications of organic and inorganic nutrients irrespective to soil values means certain amount of nutrients via the source of organic manure and inorganic synthetic chemical fertilizers has to be done without knowing its concentration in the soil...

IPNS also takes into account the soil test value, infact any nutroent supply chain takes into account the soil test value....

STCR is a diagnostic method and IPNS is a nutrient supply system, both have different premises of evaluating their sustainability.....

STCR and IPNS are two important management practices in sustainable crop production. STCR is based targeted yield concept by taking into account of native soil nutrient availability.where as IPNS is combined nutrient management method. Both are having their own role in sustainable agriculture

Dr Singh , thats a great idea. The current soil resource inventory must provide the inventory of fertility constraints to fit the best soil for best use which caters to consumers demand and rural livelihood as well. Who knows better than you these affairs....

Thank you Dr.Singh and Dr. A K Srivastava for very informative comments. But so far many researchers including me have opined that IPNS based nutrient management strategies would be more useful in sustaining the crop productivity and soil health too.

Sustainable agriculture includes sustainable area for a well defined land use and associated area specific best management practices (BMP). BMP covers area specific soil and water conservation measures, best perform crop variety and the associated agronomy. It is a novel concept, considering sustained production and soil health simultaneously. It is also very much needed in combating climate change and smothering degradation.

Yes , quite possible and best premise to adopt such practices....
