When I am doing AFM , I am seeing big particles in the image. How do I get rid of it? I am trying to image 2D BN nanolayers. I need to have some better image of mono/few layers of BN. Thanks
Akibul...those big particles are due to sample itself.. you can't do much to remove them, they could be due to improper growth of BN nanolayer. Some of the students I am working with have developed MoS2 layers. If experimental techniques are good, you get roughness 1 nm for 2D materials. Small size particles or streaks can be corrected with image post processing but not bigger ones.
The mothod for sample preparation matters. You can try a more dilute concentration and /or longer ultrasonic treatment.
For AFM, it often needs to take a long time to find an idea area to scan and capture an image. Try more times at different areas of your already-prepared specimen.
