The determination of acetic acid is carried out using standard NaOH solution without carbonates - because their presence causes erroneous results. The sodium acetate formed as a result of the reaction undergoes anionic hydrolysis, therefore the solution at the end point of the titration is alkaline (pH approx. 8.8). Phenolphthalein (color change pH range 8.3-10.0) is suitable as an indicator, which at the end point becomes colored (raspberry).
mCH3COOH (g) = cNaOH(mol/l) x VNaOH (l) x MCH3COOH (60.05 g/mol)
